Kitikmeot Campus Construction Tour

On October 20th, 2020, Members of Cabinet alongside QEC Chair, and NAC Staff, toured the construction site where the new Kitikmeot Campus is underway, in Cambridge Bay. Among the attendees were: Premier Savikataaq, A/Minister responsible for NAC, David Joanaise, Minister Ehaloak, and Minister Kusugak. The QEC Chair and former MLA for Cambridge Bay Minster Keith Peterson also attended the Tour.

The Tour was led by NAC’s Dean of Health, Wellness, and Business Fiona Buchan-Corey and Sheldon McCallum, CGS Project Manager, who provided details about the constructions and plans for the new building.

The construction contract is a “Design-Build Contract” led by the company Illutsataarvik, working in partnership with designer Stantec Architecture Ltd.  The current stage of construction is nearing the final stage of finishing, with painting, flooring, and fixtures being installed.

The building will address the core need to consolidate and expand the existing Campus facilities to meet the delivery demands of college programs within the Kitikmeot. It has dedicated classroom spaces for the Nunavut Teacher Education Program and the Social Service Worker program. The anticipated completion date is December 1, 2020, and the building is located at 48 Nugak Street, on the Nunavut Arctic College Kitikmeot Campus site.

We will continue to update the public on the progress of the new Kitikmeot Campus.
