Maternity Care Certificate
About the Program:
The Maternity Care Worker certificate program is designed to prepare graduates to work with individual women, childbearing families, and the community.
They will be members of the Primary Health Care Team, incorporating Inuit cultural beliefs and values, and offering both traditional and modern maternal care practices. Maternity Care Workers will use a holistic approach to assessing needs, and aclient-centered approach to fulfilling identified needs of pregnant women.
The Program is based on the principles of the Nunavut Government as outlined in Pinasuaqtavut and the mission and principles of the Department of Health and Social Services.

Student Funding and Financial Assistance:
Funding for this program is through the Department of Health and Social Services on a contract delivery basis. Students may be eligible for Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students (FANS). Contact the Registrar's Office toll-free at 1-866-979-7222
Credit Transfer Opportunities:
Students may receive transfer credits from other College credit courses if approved by Program Faculty. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Employment Opportunities:
Graduates of the Certificate program will have the competencies to enter the Midwifery Education Diploma Program, or may work as Maternity Care Workers with the Department of Health and Social Services. While program completion does not ensure employment, graduates do have more options in the health care field.
