Students will get an opportunity to explore the different careers that are available in the trades, and build on positive learning experiences and develop a solid attitude towards work. Participants will also take courses in Prior Learning, Assessment and Recognition while exploring the nature of work in fields of interest, by developing an individual work plan.
Trades Access integrates Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimaningit and recognizes the value of collaborative learning styles unique to Nunavut.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In order to enter this program, applicants must have the following education:
- High school diploma or a GED equivalency
- Submit three (3) letters of reference
- Submit a letter of interest for enrollment
Or, as Mature Student:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old and have been out of school for at least one school year
- Candidates may also apply for Prior Learning Assessments and Recognition for admission
Additionally:
- A placement test in Math and English will be required for all students entering this program
- Full participation requires individuals to be physically capable of performing the work
FUNDING SOURCE & ALLOWANCES
Application is made directly to FANS or other student funding providers within your regions. This program is eligible for students who meet the criteria as defined by FANS with the Department of Education.

Major employers of apprentices and tradesmen in Nunavut are typically with Territorial, Local Governments, mining and construction industry.
