The Planning and Lands Administrator (PLA) is responsible for two important activities of the municipality. These are community planning and land administration.
The planning responsibility of the PLA is to assist the municipality in guiding the growth and development of land use in the community. The PLA will do this by assisting in the preparation of plans, and implementing the community plan. Another important role of the PLA is to help the municipality administer and enforce the Land Use Plan, usually through the Zoning By-Law.
The goal of land administration is in the management of municipal lands in the public interest, by following procedures that are fair and equitable to all concerned. The PLA may also manage other government’s lands in the community, such as federal and commissioners’.
The main responsibilities of the Planning and Lands Division include:
- Administer and oversee all lands transactions on municipal lands
- Coordinate with the department of Community Government and Services planning division with the preparation and execution of future development and sub division designs
- The preparation and enforcement of Lands Administration, Zoning and Community Plan By-laws
